What Is The 858 Visa?
Applicants must have an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement in one of the following areas:
- a profession
- a sport
- the arts
- academia and research.
Before you can apply for this visa you must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and receive an invitation to apply for the visa.
Key Features
- You must be nominated by a nominator who has an internationally recognised record of exceptional and outstanding achievement and national reputation in the same area as you. Your nominator must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or Eligible New Zealand citizen, or an organisation
- You need to be prominent and continue to be active in your field
- If you are 55 years or older when you apply, you must be of exceptional benefit to the Australian community
- Applicants must demonstrate they would be able to find work or easily establish themselves in their area of expertise in Australia
- Applicants may be inside or outside of Australia at time of application. If they are inside Australia and hold a 491 or 494 provisional visa, they must have held this visa for at least 3-years before they are eligible to apply for the NIV
